As we journey through this month of November, I pray we will all grow in our thankfulness for the things we have been blessed with by the Lord. I fear that we too often fail to appreciate what we have until we don’t have it anymore. I fear that we become accustomed to the blessings we have and we take them for granted, and then we neglect them and become complacent about them until we may end up losing them altogether. This happens in marriages, families, churches, friendships, even in our material blessings from God in the things we possess. God is good and He grants us all much goodness. He gives even more benefits of His goodness to His children. God blesses everyone through His creation. If a person has been born again, then they have been miraculously and incredibly blessed by the Lord God Almighty. The fact the God even makes forgiveness available to us sinners is an amazing blessing in itself. When we realize how blessed we are, it helps us to realize the blessings we have. When we realize how greatly we have been blessed, it motivates us to have a greater gratitude for our blessings. When we are grateful, it causes us to see and acknowledge the blessings we have been given. I want to encourage each of us to think about how blessed we are and put forth much effort this month to acknowledge more of the blessings we have been given. This year I want to encourage each of us to take some time to write some praises of thanks on one of the pumpkins on the table in the foyer. We are calling them Praise Pumpkins, and I want to encourage us all to write some of the things that God has blessed us with in our lives. The more grateful we are the more we appreciate how we have been blessed. God gave us a great Missions Emphasis month in October, and it was a wonderful blessing to have Rick and Regina Adams with us last week. We have been blessed by the Lord to be able to give our missionary families an extra gift for the holidays and help with several projects. I am thankful that new people are getting involved in Faith Missions Giving. I also praise the Lord that we have more people committed to mission giving and uttermost giving; with more committed to be given, we can continue helping spread the Gospel in other places around the world.

“Growing in Gratitude”

As we journey through this month of November, I pray we will all grow in our thankfulness for the things we have been blessed with by the Lord. I fear that we too often fail to appreciate what we have until we don’t have it anymore. I fear that we become accustomed to the blessings…

Praise the Lord!

October was a wonderful month of emphasizing worldwide evangelization for Summerville Baptist Church. We started with a church planter being sent out of Berean Baptist in Pendleton to plant Morrow County Baptist Church in Boardman. The Andresen family is going to begin holding services in May of next year, and I hope we can be…

Faith Missions Giving & Going

I trust you have truly sought the Lord in His will for your faith mission giving as you return your response card today. I trust God will be honored and glorified in the coming year as we make decisions expressing our obedience to Him in doing His will for His church in the future. I…

God’s Mission for His Church

In God’s Word, we can see the things that are near to the heart of God. From creation to eternity, we see God working His will out on earth through His creation by those He has created in His image and who have entered into eternal relationship with Him by faith in obedience to Him.…

Moving Forward

Last Sunday was a wonderful celebration for the 70th anniversary for the Lord’s church here in Summerville. It was a wonderful blessing to have Pastor Doyle Wilson’s son, Michael, here to share about his parents and their ministry here at the beginning of Summerville Baptist Church. The lunch was wonderful for all who stayed to…

“Living Intentionally”

I fear too many people are living life like a pinball in a pinball machine. They just let life happen and then they react to it the best they can until the day or week or year or sadly life is over. This is understandable in a world of people lost in sin who often…

True Patriots

The word “true” is used in many ways. It means accurate, genuine, honest, real, proper, factual, or exact. A patriot is one who cares about their nation and the people who make it up. A patriot is willing to make sacrifices for the good of their fellow citizens. A patriot is loyal to their nation…

One Generation to Another

Grandparent’s Day is a wonderful thing to celebrate. I know it is an idea that probably originated by Hallmark in order to sell more greeting cards, but it is a wonderful thing to celebrate none the less. We see the importance of grandparents in our text today as we look at II Timothy 1:1-5, and…
