This is a Football!

Fundamentals are the basic truths that everything else is built upon. Fundamentals of anything are the essential that are nonadjustable to be maintained and always be reminded of to keep what you have. If you change the fundamentals of anything, it ceases to be the same thing but rather has mutated into something very different altogether. During training camp, the great coach of the Green Bay Packers, Vince Lombardi, was frequently quoted that he would say to his team when discussing the fundamentals of the game of football, “Gentlemen, this is a football!” Without a football, you are not playing the game of football. John Wooden, the former great college basketball coach of UCLA, who was nicknamed “The Wizard of Westwood,” credited his passion for the fundamentals of basketball to his team’s successes when they won ten national titles in his career. You cannot be successful in basketball without the fundamental skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, blocking out, and rebounding. These are essential to success at any level in the sport of basketball. This is true in every facet of living life no matter what you are doing or where you are doing it. There are fundamental principles for everything that if they are not followed you will never succeed and may not even get by. It is true in education, in business, in marriage, in parenting, or in any other relationship as well. In science, economics, engineering, mathematics, cooking, and even faith; there are certain fundamentals that must be adhered to in order to have any level of success. The more you adhere to those fundamentals along the journey the greater potential of success you would experience. There are far too many religious people and religions today that have left the fundamentals of Biblical Christianity that are only found in the pages of God’s Word, and they have substituted them with the ideas of man to the point that they are no longer or never were practicing the faith once delivered to the saints by God Himself through His Word and His Son. In the course of the next several weeks, we are going to be embarking on a journey studying the Fundamentals of Biblical Christianity; I hope it will help us, grow us, and strengthen us all in our adherence to what Jesus established, paid for, and made possible. I hope that this study will help us all understand more of why we do many of the things we do and the positions we take and why they need to be maintained and not altered. I hope you will be faithful to God’s house each service in order to gain a greater understanding of what we believe and why we believe it. This is critical for every true believer in every biblical church in order to keep it biblical.
