Thanksgiving is the beginning of a wonderful season of holidays which are to also be Holy Days. Holy Days draw our attention to the Holy One and to our need of Him in our lives and to bring Him the glory He deserves. Thanksgiving is to be a very worshipful time reflecting on the goodness of God that He has bestowed upon us with His blessings. Thanksgiving is truly a Christian Holiday. The basis of it was the Pilgrims that settled in the new land in order to worship God freely according to the Bible and to bring the Gospel to the native people who lived in this new place. This national holiday was established in a Presidential Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln for the purpose of giving thanks to the Almighty God for His blessings on our lives and our nation. Christians need to not let it be perverted by society to merely turkey and football or even just time with family. It needs to be a holy time of worship to God in praise to Him for who He is and what He has done. It is a time to pause and praise the Lord for His greatness and His goodness that He has displayed to us in our lives over the past months and years. It is a wonderful opportunity to make known to others the marvelous things that He has helped us to enjoy and experience in our walk with Him and our time with Him in His Word. Others need to hear about what God has done and much of what God does is in our hearts, so if we don’t make it known then it is only known to the one that experienced it. Therefore, for others to be blessed by what He has done in our hearts, we must make it known to them by declaring it with words that are heard so they can bless others who hear. I am so thankful that God sent His Son to be the Saviour of the people in the world. I am so thankful that He convicted me of my sin with the truth of His Word so I could repent of my sins and experience His forgiveness in my life in Salvation once and in Sanctification daily. As we move from the Holy Day of Thanksgiving towards the Holy Day of celebrating the Incarnation of our Saviour and our Lord, Jesus Christ, let us make our focus of the season not merely purchasing presents and definitely not going into debt to give them. But let us keep the focus of our celebration to be worship unto our God.
