TEXT:  I Timothy 4:6-11

Introduction: God’s job description for His shepherds in His churches continued.
I. Remind God’s people of God’s truths (v. 6)
A. To be a good minister of Jesus Christ
B. To be a nourished minister in God’s Word personally
C. To be a growing minister in God’s doctrine yourself
D. To be a maturing minister in your own faith as you help others

II. Major in the major things not the minor things (vv. 7-8)
A. Refuse to follow man over God (v. 7a)
B. Discipline yourself in the things of God (vv. 7b-8a)
C. Focus on things of eternal value and truth (v. 8b)

III. Build the people of God up in their faith in God and His Word (vv. 9-10)
A. Be faithful to God’s Word don’t speak against it (v. 9a)
B. Be accepting to the God of the Word, not opposed (v. 9b)
C. Be willing to suffer for speaking God’s truth (v. 10a)
D. Be trusting in the only true and living God (v. 10b)

IV. Preach God’s truth with confidence in God, not self (v. 11)
A. Proclaim boldly what God has said in His Word
B. Call God’s people to obedience to God’s truth
C. Facilitate learning God’s truth in God’s people
1. Communicate clearly from a place of understanding truth
2. Depend on the power of God’s Word more than your power of persuasion
3. Yield to the Spirit of God so He can work in you and through you to others
