AM: “GOD’S WARNING TO HIS SHEPHERD FOR HIS FLOCK”

TEXT:  I Timothy 4:1-5

I. The Spirit speaks if we will listen to His voice (v. 1a)
A. He speaks to us through God’s Word, the Bible (John 14:26; 16:13)
B. He speaks to us in our soul; heart and mind (I Corinthians 12:11)
C. He speaks to us through godly mentors, pastors and teachers and parents (Acts 13:2; Revelation 2:7, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22)

II. The Spirit speaks to warn us about false doctrines of man (vv. 1b-3; I John 2:18; 4:1)
A. False teachers who are not faithful to God’s faith from God’s Word (v. 1b)
1. Lost but religious (Matthew 7:21-27; 13:1-58)
2. Saved but deceived (Matthew 16:23; Luke 22:31, 60; Matthew 26:74; Mark 14:68, 72; John 18:27; 21:1-25)

B. False teachers who are not listening to God, but to Satan (v. 1c)
C. False teachers who are not sensitive to God, but hard hearted (v. 2)
D. False teachers who forbid what God has blessed as good (v. 3)
1. God said marriage was good (Genesis 1:27-31; 2:18; Matthew 19:4-6, 8, 10-12; I Corinthians 7; Ephesians 5:22-31)
2. God said we need to eat meat (Genesis 9:2-4; Acts 10:9-16; 11:1-18)
3. God said we need to give thanks to God for what He created for us to eat
4. God said we need to know and believe what He has said over man

III. The Spirit speaks to guide us in Bible truth from God (vv. 4-5)
A. God teaches us in His Word what He has created is good
B. God teaches us in His Word that we should eat all types of food
C. God teaches us in His Word that we should honor God with His blessings (Proverbs 3:6; I Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:17, 23)
