TEXT: Psalm 5:1-8
Introduction: Genesis 22:5, Psalm 5:1-8
Worship is about…
Talking to God (v. 1)
Thinking about God (vv. 1-2)
Relating with God personally and submissively (v. 2)—”my King,” “my God”
Prioritizing time with God in our day (v. 3)— “in the morning”
Being right with God through obedience or forgiveness (vv. 4-6)
Honoring God through His mercy & holiness (v. 7)
Being led of God in my life in His righteousness and way (v. 8)
Coming to God in relationship with Him His way not our own (Malachi 1:6-9; Isaiah 1:11- 15; Amos 5:21-24; Hebrews 10:38; Numbers 14:11; Psalm 78:22, 32; 106:21-24; Proverbs 3:5-6)
I. Worship out of respect for who God is (Psalm 5:7)
A. He is the Creator God (Psalm 66:4; 86:9)
B. He is the Redeemer (Psalm 107:1-3)
C. He is the Judge (Genesis 18:25; Psalm 58:11; 94:1-3; 98:1-3; Romans 14:10-12; II Cor. 5:10)
II. Worship because God is worthy of it (Psalm 29:2)
A. He is deserving the worship of all He has created
B. He is owed glory from what He is Lord over as the Creator
C. He is accepting of worship offered obediently to His will
III. Worship in honor of God alone (Psalm 95:6, 9; 81:9)
A. Yielding control to God not idols of our heart—”;bow, down, kneel”
B. Respect unto God most not things of this world—”fear before him”
C. Honoring God over every other affection of our heart
IV. Worship by focusing on the glory of God (Psalm 99:5, 9; 138:2)
A. The glory of His holiness
B. The glory of His greatness
C. The glory of His majesty
D. The glory of His goodness
E. The glory of His Word
