Doctrine Matters

Doctrine matters to God, and we know this because He gave us what He wants us to know and believe in His Word, the Holy Bible. God has revealed who He is in His Word. God has clearly communicated to us in His Word regarding our condition without Him and how to be made right with Him eternally. God has specifically made known to us in great detail what He expects of us as His children and that He will hold us accountable for it before Him in eternity. God has told us things that are true and things that are not true in His Word. God has warned us that we need to beware of false teacher who seek to deceive those who are ignorant of the truth of His Word. In His Word, He has given us all that we need to know Him, relate rightly with Him, live for Him while we are here, and to give a good accountability to Him when we are with Him in Heaven. The reason God gave us His Word is because these things matter to God and He wants us to have them for our benefit. The sad reality is that the average individual does not know the relevancy of the Bible to living life now and in eternity. The reality is that the average person does not know this because the average Christian does not care to take time to learn what God has given us to know. They do not take time to read or study it personally. They do not take the time to get engaged in the study of it with others in discipleship, Bible study groups, or Sunday Bible classes. They far too often do not even make time to spend in God’s house where it is being proclaimed and explained on the Lord’s Day in worship to the true God. And when there are extra opportunities to benefit from the preaching and teaching of it, they are just too busy with greater priorities that demand their attention. I was blessed by several visits I had in the Gospel Truth Booth this week in the fair. I met several people who were looking for a church to call home. I met several people who were thankful they already knew the Lord as their Saviour. I met several who didn’t know the Lord but heard a little bit about Him and many who did not care to listen at all. I had one conversation with a man who stated emphatically the importance of Bible Doctrine and knowing the truth of God’s Word. I was blessed. He was not a preacher, but he was preaching truth. He was not a pastor, but he was blessing the heart of this pastor with His words of value for the importance of knowing what you believe and why you believe it. He was just a man making a living and providing for his family, but he knew the importance of what matters to God mattering to us. God has given us His Word to know what to believe and have a reason for why to believe it so that someone won’t deceive you into believing a lie based on some other book of man. I think what matters to God enough to inform us ought to matter to us enough to be informed.
