This is the essence of the Great Commission to every obedient believer in every biblical church. Jesus made His instructions to us very clear in His message to His disciples before He returned to Heaven and to each of the apostles who recorded it in Holy Scripture for us. The first step in the matter of biblical disciple making is the spreading of the Gospel message to the lost around us. If we are going to see disciples made, they must first become believers in Jesus Christ. They must see themselves as sinners in need of the Saviour in order for them to trust Christ to save them from their sins. They must have the lie of most religions exposed to them. The lie that they can make themselves good enough to get to Heaven through their good works and obedience to the law. The truth is that they must realize the significance of the holiness of God and how they fall short of achieving it on their own. They must come to realize the vital nature of who Jesus is and what He was sent to do for them, so that they have the opportunity to be forgiven of their sins. But then they also need to understand what saving faith is and what their faith must be in so that God will forgive them of their sins, so they can be redeemed and be born into God’s family by His grace, mercy, and love. This is the first step in the Great Commission and of disciple making. We must be sharing the Gospel with whomever will listen to it, but we must share with everyone possible to find those who are willing to listen. Once someone trusts in Christ as their Saviour, the next step is helping them grow in their understanding of God’s truth so they can continue following Jesus not only as their Saviour, but also as their Lord. They need someone to work with them in studying the Bible to learn Bible doctrines of truth, so they do not become draw away into the deception of the world again or the deception of false religions of men. They need to be fed the truths of Scripture, so they can grow in their faith and learn how to study the Bible on their own and be equipped to keep growing in their faith. They need to be encouraged to be faithful to God’s house of worship and fellowship with God’s people. They need someone to stay close to them so the enemy does not get them discouraged as a new believer and hinder their spiritual growth. They need someone to love them, care about them, and help them grow so they can go out with the Gospel themselves and continue in making more disciples.
