TEXT:  Philippians 3:12-21

I. As long as we live on earth we must work against our flesh (vv. 12-17)
A. We can never feel like we have arrived (vv. 12-13)
B. We need to be always making progress (vv. 13-14)
C. We need to focus our mind on the Lord (vv. 15-17)

II. We must not allow ourselves to live like the lost in sin (vv. 18-19)
A. Idolatry of our flesh
B. Worshipping our desires
C. Being dictated by earthly things

III. Fasting helps us subdue our flesh and focus on the Lord (vv. 20-21)
A. Our life is to be more than fleshly appetites (v. 20a; Romans 14:12-23)
B. We need to focus on our Saviour not our sensory desires (v. 20b)
C. Spiritual things are eternal, but our physical desires are temporary (v. 21)
