TEXT: Luke 5:1-11
I. A True Witness involves others in their witnessing (vv. 1-7)
- Jesus proclaimed truth to those who would listen (v. 1)
- Jesus sought the help of those who were willing (vv. 2-3)
- Jesus tried to help people, but let them learn the hard way (vv. 4-7)
- Jesus’ instructions to Peter were very specific (v. 4)
- Peter’s obedience to Jesus was very limited (v. 5)
- Peter’s limited obedience was very costly to him (v. 6)
- Jesus’ blessings to Peter were very abundant (v. 7)
II. A True Witness helps people identify their sinfulness (vv. 8-10)
- Peter humbled himself before Jesus because of his sinfulness (v. 8)
- Peter confessed his sinfulness unto the Almighty Lord (v. 9)
- Peter and his partners were all impacted by what Jesus did (v. 10)
III. A True Witness invites others to join them in witnessing (vv. 10b-11)
- Jesus shows grace and compassion to repentant sinners (v. 10b)
- Jesus calls repentant sinners to be witnesses to other sinners (v. 10c)
- Jesus will bless any repentant sinner who will follow Him (v. 11)
