TEXT: I Timothy 4
Introduction: God is the ultimate authority in regard to His work on earth.
I Chronicles 9:22; I Chronicles 17:9; Isaiah 26:12; I Corinthians 7:17; Titus 1:5, 1-11

I. God is the source of any authority to man
A. God ordained parents in Genesis to rear up their children in truth
B. God ordained government to care for the civil order of society later in Genesis 10. (Romans 13:1-8)
C. God ordained the church to continue the Gospel ministry He established on earth. (Matthew 28:18; Acts 9:15-18; 13:2-3)
II. Paul gave Titus specific instructions from God about who to set in church leadership (Titus 1:1-11)
A. He was to ordain men with a good testimony (vv. 6-7)
B. He was to ordain men who take care of their family well (v. 6)
C. He was to ordain mature men who showed self-control (vv. 7-8)
D. He was to ordain men who were able to communicate God’s Word (v. 9)
E. He was to ordain men who would shepherd the church well (vv. 9-10)
III. God uses men in churches to ordain men in the ministry (I Timothy 4)
A. Under the leading and direction of the Holy Spirit (vv. 1-5)
B. To be a good minister of Jesus Christ (vv. 6-11)
C. To remind you of your calling and your commissioning (vv. 12-16)
