God says to …
I. Be gracious and generous to your neighbor in sharing your extra, WHEN: (vv. 9-10)
- Your neighbor goes beyond your bordering property (v. 10)
- Your neighbor goes beyond your socio-economic status (v. 10)
- Your neighbor goes beyond your nationality (v. 10)
- Your neighbor goes beyond your people group (v. 10)
II. Do not steal from your neighbor (v. 11)
- Don’t take things from others unlawfully
- Don’t Misrepresent things for personal gain
- Don’t Defraud someone to get something of theirs
III. Do not deceive your neighbor (v. 11-13)
- Don’t lie about your neighbor.
- Don’t lie to your neighbor.
- Don’t swear by the name of God.
- Don’t defraud your neighbor financially.
IV. Do not disrespect or dishonor your neighbor (vv. 11-13)
- Do not take advantage of their limitations to degrade or hurt them (v. 14)
- Do not demean, hurt, or take advantage of them in any way (v. 15)
- Do not spread rumors or gossip about your neighbor to others (v. 16)
V. Do not participate in evil toward your neighbor (vv. 17-19
- Do not be hateful or hurtful toward your neighbor.
- Do not be mean or malicious toward your neighbor.
- Do not participate in the sin of your neighbor that will hurt him.
- Do not have hurtful, vengeful feelings or actions toward your neighbor.
Conclusion: Treat others the way you want them to treat you! ~ Matthew 7:12
