AM: “TIME TO STOP LOVING THE WORLD & START LOVING THE WORLD”

TEXT:  1 JOHN 2:15-17

I. Too many Christians love this world the wrong way    I John 2:15-17;   Psalm 16:5-11

  1. They follow the philosophy of the world more than the truth of God
  1. They desire the things of this world more than the treasures of God
  1. They focus on carnal, sensual pleasures more than spiritual, holy pleasures
  1. They invest themselves in temporal things more than eternal things with God

II. More Christians need to love this world the right way   John 3:16-21

  1. God loves the people in the world not the philosophy that deceives them
  1. God loves them enough to give to them knowing some will reject    vss. 16, 18
  1. He gave His only begotten Son to save them from their sins
  2. He gave His only begotten Son so they might be saved in Him
  3. He gave His only begotten Son for them to believe on Him
  4. He gave His only begotten Son as His light to help them see their sins   John 1:4-9, 14, 18; Hebrews 11:17; I John 4:9
  1. God loves them enough to leave them a witness to bring them to Him    vs. 21

III. More Christians need to live the truth of God’s love to the world     I John 2:1-14

  1. By living to His glory while we are in the world I John 2:1-5,
  1. By letting His Word help you not to sin vs. 1
  2. By sharing His propitiation with others vs. 2    I John 4:10-11
  1. By obeying His Word given to us vss. 3-5
  2. Be in the world as Jesus was when He was here on Earth      John 17:11-18
  3. But not be of the world as Jesus was not of this world when He was here on Earth
  4. Be a witness to the world as Jesus was when He was here on earth in human form
  1. By following Jesus in living life His way       I John 2:6
  1. By showing His love to others around us      I John 2:7-14
  1. By being a good and godly influence on others   vss. 8-9
  1. By not being a stumbling block to others   vss. 10-11
  1. By being a growing child of God with the help of His Word vss. 12-14
  1. By helping others growing in their relationship with the Lord vss. 12-14
