I. The preaching of God’s Word helps us build a godly life (vv. 14, 1-13)
A. Remind believers of these things
B. Charge believers of these things
C. Benefit believers of these things

II. The studying of God’s Word helps us build a godly life (vv. 15-18)
A. To be approved of God as a faithful servant (v. 15a; Jude 3-5)
B. To be accurate in our understanding of truth (v. 15b; II Peter 1:20-21; James 1:19-26)
C. To be aware of increasing false teachings (vv. 16-18)

III. Being grounded in God’s Word helps us to build a godly life (vv. 19-21)
A. We decide the foundation of our faith in the Lord (v. 19)
1. God’s Word is a sure foundation for faith in the Lord
2. God’s Word helps us to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit in our heart (Romans 8:13-17)
3. God’s Word helps us to grow in holiness that helps us not doubt our faith
B. We decide if we honor the Lord or dishonor Him (v. 20)
C. We decide how useful we are to be tools in God’s work (v. 21; I Thessalonians 4:1-8)

IV. The instructing of God’s Word helps us to build a godly life (vv. 22-26)
A. By motivating us to follow after righteous things (v. 22)
B. By motivating us to follow meekness in our lives (vv. 23-25a)
C. By motivating us to repent of our sin regularly (vv. 25b-26)
