This is the term I use for our worldwide evangelization ministry here at Summerville Baptist Church. Churches have different philosophies and practices as to how they do their mission ministry, but here at Summerville we seek to obey the Bible truths that teach seeking God for what He wants us to trust Him to give to help in His work beyond our local church area. Paul describes this in II Corinthians, and it is explained in our Missions Booklet that we hope to have to you next Sunday. The title above explains the philosophy very clearly as taken from II Corinthians and other Scripture references. It is about giving an offering to the Lord’s work above a tithe. We do not need to pray about giving a tithe, we just need to obey what the Bible clearly states. But in giving an offering above the tithe, it is a good plan to pray and seek the Lord’s direction in this matter of giving to the Lord. Giving ourselves in missions is what several did yesterday when we gathered at our home and talked about evangelism and then went out to seek to spread the Gospel right here in our valley. This is about giving to missions, which is God’s plan for His church to spread the Gospel of Christ from the Bible to the world. We give ourselves to missions also by taking part in Mission Trips like we have every Summer or going to serve along the side of a missionary in their place of ministry. It is done by faith so it is not completely budgeted as tithing should be because it is a fixed amount with each pay period. It is a way for God’s children to grow their faith as they obey God’s leading in the increase of Faith Missions Giving. They are learning to obey God with the unknown and they are learning to trust God to provide what He has directed them to give to His work. Truly, it takes faith to tithe and trust God to help you live on 90% instead of 100%, but it stretches your faith to give more than just 10% and live on even less than 90%. There is so much more that we could do in the Lord’s work beyond our valley if everyone would give something to Faith Missions Giving. There is so much more that we could do right here at home if everyone would even tithe to the Lord’s work from the income He blesses them with each pay period. There is so much more that could be done in the work of the Lord through His church here at Summerville if everyone just obeyed God and served Him in His church ministry with the gifts He has given to them. The goal is 100% of God’s people being involved in obeying His will for His church, and we still have a ways to go yet.
