The Great Commission Mission

Today, we are excited to have the Passage Northwest students here with us in our services. They were a great help this weekend with our Harvest Festival setting up Friday night and helping with the event last night. The Passage Northwest ministry is part of mission’s support team and we are blessed to be able to invest in the lives of these young adults through the Crown College extension program, as well as teens and children in the summer camp ministry. This year our church has had the privilege of teaming up with this ministry on a personal level on multiple occasions. In the spring, our family went there to serve with the college students as Teri and I taught about ministry, and I was a blessed to be able to speak in a chapel service. Then this summer, we had a group of children and workers go to junior camp to enjoy a week together and several decisions were made. After that, the teens went to teen camp with the Woodards, while Teri and I traveled up because I was invited to be the speaker. It was a tremendous honor to be invited to speak, and it was a blessing to see teens making decisions. Now in the Fall, they are here with us ministering alongside of our church family to get a glimpse of how we do ministry in rural northeastern Oregon. It is an honor for our church to invest in these young adults and in this ministry financially with monthly support, spiritually with prayer, and practically with ministry involvement. Our mission’s ministry here at Summerville Baptist Church should not merely be about Faith Missions Giving in the offering or praying about what to commit to give each year in October. We should be praying for our Missionary families on a regular basis which is why we update our missions booklet each year. This is also why we have our supported Missionary families and agencies posted on the back wall along with their latest prayer letters. We want you to know their names well enough to mention them in prayer regularly. We want you to know their needs well enough to lift those up to the Lord in prayer. This is also why we encourage our church family to be engaged in the Adopt-a Missionary ministry. So, you communicate with at least one Missionary in our team to let them know that they are thought of and prayed for personally here at Summerville. This coming Saturday is a great opportunity for our church family. We will be having soul winning training followed by soul winning outreach beginning at 9:30AM. Spreading the Gospel here at home in our communities is as much of our Lord’s Great Commission to His church as sending missionaries around the world is. I hope everyone who is a faithful part of the worship here at Summerville will take seriously their responsibility in being part of the Lord’s Great Commission Mission for His church here in spreading the Gospel personally, praying for our missionaries personally, and committing to Faith Missions Giving for the coming year personally.
