Preparing for eternity is a lifelong endeavor that we all need much help with during our life time. The first step in our journey of preparing for eternity is entering into a relationship with our Creator, God, and Judge. This is impossible without help. First and foremost, we need God’s help to enter into relationship with Him and begin our preparations for eternity. We need His forgiveness of our sins. We need His help in understanding that we are sinners and His solution to provide for our forgiveness of the sins we are guilty of committing. Most often, we need another person to help us by sharing with us this information that God has already helped them come to realize and appreciate. This is merely the starting place of beginning to prepare for eternity. Being born again by Salvation through faith in Christ as our Saviour is the beginning of our preparation for eternity. It changes our eternal destination from Hell to Heaven by entering into a relationship with God, but God has far more instore for us than just escaping Hell for eternity. This gives us spiritual life by making us alive in our spirit which had been dead in our sinful and lost condition. Redemption of our sin debt against God is the point of Salvation putting us in a right standing with God in becoming His child through Jesus Christ as our Saviour which begins the continuing process of our Salvation as God’s child in Sanctification. God wants His children to grow in relationship with Him and become effective tools in His hand to do His work through them here on this earth until He takes them to Heaven to be with Him eternally. This sanctifying work of God in His children requires spending time with Him in His Word learning and growing in our understanding of Him and His truth. It also requires becoming aware and sensitive to God’s Spirit helping us live as a child of God here on earth. It also requires growing closer to our Heavenly Father and Saviour in regular worship of our God in His house with His people and alone with Him on our own. God also uses pastors, teachers, mentors, disciplers, and fellow believers to help us in this process of Sanctification. As we grow and mature in our faith and obedience, we are developing in our preparation for our eternity with God and our accountability to God as His children and His servants.
