II Chronicles 7 is a great declaration by God for His nation Israel in regards to His blessings on them and His punishment of them. God is saying that He will accept their house of worship and He will meet with His people there, but He also says if they disobey Him and go into sin that He will curse them. In verse fourteen, we see God’s remedy for when our sin brings God’s chastening and judgement on His people. If we turn from our sin in humble repentance and seek the Lord with all our heart, then God will hear, forgive, and heal their land. As I was meditating on that Scripture this week following Pastor Steve’s message, I wanted to see if there were similar statements in God’s Word to God’s people. I have known Jeremiah 33:3 for years after memorizing it as a young man, but I had forgotten the context of the promise. Jeremiah 33 is very much like II Chronicles 7. The periods of history are hundreds of years apart, but the warning and the promise for a solution to the problem are very much the same. The solution to the problems of God’s limiting His blessings because of the sin of His people begin with hearing the Word of the Lord. Too many of God’s people are not coming into God’s house very often to hear God’s Word, nor are they reading God’s Word for themselves very often. Too many of God’s people are not calling out to the Lord in repentance and seeking His face on behalf of their nation. Too many of God’s people are comfortable with the sin in their life even though it is dishonoring to God and not bringing Him the glory He deserves in their life. Too many of God’s people do not see their need of healing from the Lord in their lives spiritually. They feel they may not be doing great spiritually, but they are not really terrible spiritually; therefore, they are okay spiritually. Too many of God’s people are not being cleansed of their sins to have intimacy with their Heavenly Father and enjoy the fullness of His blessings in their lives because they are hardening their heart to the conviction of God regarding their sins. They are remaining in a distance from the Lord instead of experiencing the joy of intimacy with Him. God gives His people the promise of a future of renewing intimacy with Him in His blessings on their life to fill them with joy and be a witness to others of the goodness of God in their life but they must come to Him in repentance for restoration and renewal. This is the recipe for revival personally as a child of God, corporately as a church, and collectively as a nation.
