WED: “The Fear of the Lord is Directly Connected to Service”

TEXT:  Deuteronomy 6

  1. The fear of the Lord helps us to obey
    1. Living according to God’s Word is respecting & obeying God     Deuteronomy 13:4
    2. Obeying God’s commands is good for us, not bad for us
      1. Living God’s way is healthier; safer; better
    3. Living according to God’s Word brings God’s blessings on our lives
      1. God blesses righteous living
      2. God chastens sinful living
      3. God judges us for our faithfulness
    4. Living according to God’s Word is honoring to God as our Creator
      1. As the Creator, His creation belongs to Him
      2. As the Creator, He defines the purposes of all of His creation
      3. AS the Creator, all of creation is answerable to Him
    5. Loving God because He loves us causes us to honor & obey Him
  2. The fear of the Lord helps us to serve Him out of love
    1. Serve Him with all your heart & soul  (love, devotion, effort)
    2. Serve Him with a cleansed heart – right with HIm
      1. A heart where sin has been removed by forgiveness
      2. A heart where sin has been cleansed by repentance
      3. A heart where sin has been replaced by righteousness
    3. Serve Him with your all because of who He is
  3. We should honor & serve the Lord because He is worthy
    1. He is worthy of our faithfulness because He is faithful     Hebrews 13:5-6
    2. He is worthy of our praise because He is the cause of our praise
    3. He is worthy to be our God because He is the only true God
    4. He is worthy to be served because of all He has done for us
    5. He is worthy of our trust because He always keeps His promises     Joshua 24:14
