I. We need to fast when we are facing a major crisis (vv. 1-3)
A. Imminent death is a major crisis (v. 1)
B. The extermination of a nation is a major crisis (v. 2)
C. National fasting is needed when a nation is in crisis (v. 3)

II. We need to fast when we are in a major dilemma (vv. 4-9)
A. Some may not be comfortable with you fasting (v. 4)
B. We need to have a purpose in fasting & praying (vv. 5-6)
C. We need to fast & pray when only God can help (vv. 7-9)

III. We need to fast before we make major decisions (vv. 10-17)
A. Decisions that can alter the outcome of your life (vv. 10-11)
B. Decisions that have no good options to choose from (vv. 13-14)
C. Decisions that you must make but you are not confident about (vv. 15-17)
