TEXT:  JOHN 1:19-29

I. A true witness promotes Christ not self      (vv. 19-21)

1. Our primary identity is in Christ (v. 19) “Who art thou?”

2. Our representation is of Christ (v. 20) “I am not the Christ.”

3. Our reputation is to be a servant of Christ (v. 21)

II. A true witness fulfills God’s will for their life     (vv. 22-25)

1. Merely being a voice for God’s truth on earth (vv. 22-23)

2. Merely being obedient to God’s will for my life (v. 23)

   1. What God prophesied to be in His Word (Isaiah 40:3-5)
   2. What God gifted him to be in conception (Luke 1:5-25)
   3. What God called him to be from birth (Luke 1:57-80)
   4. Merely being the person God has called me to be (vv. 24-25)

III. A true witness declares the truth of Christ      (vv. 26-29)

     A. God wants us to declare Christ to those who do not know Him (v. 26)

     B. God wants us to declare Christ as God in the flesh (vv. 27-28)

     C. God wants us to declare Christ as the Lamb of God for sinners (v. 29)
