TEXT: Psalm 42

I. The more we desire God, the more we will seek God (vv. 1-4)
A. We need to desire God spiritually like our body craves water physically (v. 1)
B. When we truly desire God, it will help us be prepared to meet Him (v. 2)
C. When we truly desire God, we will go to Him with our struggles in life (v. 3)
D. When we truly desire God, we will gather before Him in worship (v. 4)
II. Biblical Worship ministers to our soul completely (vv. 5-6)
A. Discouragements in life can affect our soul negatively
B. Biblical Worship is encouraging because it affects our soul positively
C. Biblical Worship causes us to think about the Lord “therefore will I remember thee”
III. Biblical Worship enables us to benefit from the healing of our soul (vv. 7-11)
A. God’s lovingkindness blesses us when life is overwhelming us (vv. 7-8)
B. Connecting with our God encourages us when we are in a storm in life (v. 8)
1. Singing songs that remind us of His goodness
2. Singing songs that remind us of His greatness
3. Singing songs that remind us of His graciousness
C. Praying to God about our trials is a declaration of our faith in Him (vv. 9-10)
1. Praying to Him because He is the true solid foundation of life
2. Praying to Him reminding us that He is trustworthy and faithful
3. Praying to Him when we are in despair because of our enemies attacking us
D. Biblical Worship builds our hope in the Lord (v. 11)
1. By focusing our attention on God and off of other things
2. By strengthening our faith in God through His Word
3. By expressing our dependency on God
4. By enjoying intimacy with God in His presence spiritually
