WED: “A TRUE WITNESS EXALTS HIS SAVIOUR”

TEXT:  JOHN 3:22-36

I. True witnesses of truth are never in competition (vv. 22-25)
A. Jesus and John were not in competition with each other (vv. 22-23)
B. Jesus’ and John’s disciples were sometimes competitive (v. 25)
C. John’s disciples were jealous of Jesus’ success but not John (v. 26)
II. A true witness is always focused on their Saviour (vv. 27-30)
A. John put the focus back on the Lord not himself (v. 27)
B. John pointed his disciples to Jesus not himself (vv. 28-29)
C. John lifted up Jesus by lowering himself
III. A true witness has an accurate view of God and man (vv. 31-36)
A. John was clear in recognizing his own limitations (v. 31b)
B. John was not confused about the greatness of Jesus as God (vv. 31-34)
C. John declared Jesus to be the true Son of God (v. 35)
D. John stated faith in Jesus to be the key to eternal life (v. 36)
