TEXT: I John 2:26-29

I. The Holy Spirit renews God’s Work in us through God’s Word (vv. 26-27; I John 2:20; 3:24)
A. The Holy Spirit helps us avoid being seduced
1. God has given us His Word to deliver us from the bondage of Satan’s family (I Peter 2:23)
2. God has given us His Word to help deliver us from the control of the lust of this world (I John 2:15-17; John 17:14-17; Colossians 2:8)
3. God has given us His Spirit to guide us away from the seduction of lust in our flesh in this world (Romans 13:12-14; I Thess. 4:3; 5:22; I Peter 2:11)

B. The Holy Spirit helps us learn from God’s Word (John 14:26)
C. The Holy Spirit helps us keep God’s Word abiding in us (John 15:1-12; Colossians 3:14-17)

II. God’s children being faithful to Him gives them confidence in eternity (v. 28)
A. Receiving Christ as Saviour into our life by faith to be God’s child
B. Abiding in Christ in obedience and close fellowship with Him as His follower (John 15:4, 7, 10)
C. Regularly letting His Word abide in us to produce righteousness in us to live right (Colossians 3:16-25)

III. The only way to be prepared for eternity is with the righteousness of God (v. 29)
A. Knowing God is righteous helps us know we are sinners
B. Knowing God is righteous helps us know we need His righteousness in us
C. Knowing God is righteous helps us know we are His when we see His righteousness
