TEXT: Isaiah 11:1-16
I. His birth coming to earth in human form (v. 1)
- He would come in the future
- He would come from the line of Jesse
- He would come as a Branch that will grow out of the root (I Kings 11:9-11; Isaiah 9:6-7; Romans 15:6-13)
II. His ministry beginning to identify Him (vv. 2-4a)
- His baptism to identify Him as the sent One from God (v. 2a; John 1:32-33; Matthew 3:14-17)
- His understanding beyond any other (v. 2)
- Displayed early on at 12 in the Temple (Luke 2:46-49)
- Displayed in His teachings as He ministered (Matthew 7:28-29; 13:54; Mark 6:2)
- Displayed in His miracles as He served (Isaiah 61:1-3; Luke 4:16-21)
- His fulfillment of the will of the Father (vv. 3-4)
- All that He was given to do He did (John 6:38-40)
- All that He was given to say He said (John 14:10; 17:8)
- All that He did on earth was God’s will not His own (John 4:34; 5:36; 17:4)
III. His future judgment of the earth prophesied (vv. 4-5)
- The separation of the righteous and wicked first
- The judgment of sin on the earth in the tribulation
- The establishment of His righteous kingdom on earth to follow
- The destruction of the wicked to follow in the end
IV. His Kingdom of peace on earth declared (vv. 6-9)
- Peace in the animal kingdom (v. 6)
- Peace between mankind and the rest of creation (vv. 7-8)
- Peace between the Holy God and all of His creation (v. 9)
V. His future plans for His chosen people Israel (vv. 10-16)
- He shall be a banner of God’s love for all people (v. 10; Genesis 12:2-3)
- He has a second half to His plan to finish for His people Israel (vv. 11-12)
C. He has and will one day finally destroy all the enemies of His people (vv. 13-16)
