TEXT: Ephesians 4:17-32

Introduction: vs. 17 “This I say therefore,..” What is therefore referring to?

I. God wants His children to live His way (v. 17)
A. This is the Lord’s declared will
B. After Salvation we don’t live the same as before
C. We live with the understanding of the truth of God

II. God wants His children to live differently from the lost (vv. 18-19)
A. Understanding darkened to the things of God (v. 18a)
B. Separated from the help of God in their life (v. 18b; Colossians 1:21)
C. Blinded spiritually to the things of God (v. 18c; Mark 3:5; 2 Corinthians 4:1-7)
D. Living by the direction of their human desires (v. 19)

III. God wants His children to learn from Jesus how to live (vv. 20-24)
A. Sinning comes natural to us all, so we need to learn to live differently (v. 20)
B. Learning requires for us to be attentive to Jesus and how He lived (vv. 20-22)
C. Living like Jesus requires new life in us from Jesus (v. 21; Ephesians 1:7, 12-13; Galatians 2:20; Colossians 3:1-4; I John 2:1-5)
D. Once we are new in Christ, we still need to be renewing our mind (vv. 23-24; Romans 6:1-14)

IV. God wants His children to keep renewing our mind to live like Jesus more (vv. 25-32)
A. In our words (vv. 25, 29)
B. In our emotions (vv. 26, 31)
C. In resisting satan (v. 27)
D. In our actions (v. 28)
E. In regards to the Holy Spirit (v. 30)
F. In our attitudes (v. 32)
