TEXT: Psalm 36

Introduction: A brief review of our nation’s history.
I. The problems we have today are nothing new (vv. 1-4)
A. Sin is at the root of all the problems of mankind (vv. -3a)
B. Leaving the wisdom of God and His will always leads to sin (v. 3b)
C. When we do not abhor evil, we are heading for our ruin (v. 4; Ecclesiastes 1:9)
II The source of our solution is always the same (vv. 5-6)
A. God’s mercy from Heaven unto us on earth (v. 5a)
B. God’s faithfulness to His promises in His Word (v. 5b)

C. God’s righteousness to help us do right (v. 6a)
D. God’s judgment for our benefit instead of our destruction (v. 6b)
III. The only solution to our problems is still the same (vv. 7-9)
A. God’s lovingkindness to us as we acknowledge Him (v. 7; Proverbs 3:5-12)
B. God’s goodness unto us as we submit to Him (v. 8a)
C. God’s blessedness upon us as we please Him (v. 8b)
D. God’s holiness in us as we follow the light of His Word (v. 9)
IV. The future is as good as we allow it to be (vv. 10-12)
A. We can enjoy the lovingkindness of God if we want to (v. 10)
B. We can live with the benefit of God’s righteousness if we choose to (v. 11)
C. We can experience the protection of God if we are willing to (v. 12)
