DR. CHARLES SHOEMAKER SPEAKING ON COMMUNICATION, ESPECIALLY IN MARRIAGE.

TEXT:  EPHESIANS 4:25-32

  • Communication is Important because:
    • It clarifies points of view
    • It encourages mutual solutions
    • It provides a release of tension

Principles for good communication:

  1. Be truthful.  Verse 25
    1. Truth sets us free – John 8:44; 8:32
    2. Truth spoken in love, kindly – Ephesians 4:15
  2. Be temperate.  Verse 26
    1. = Self-Restrained / under control
    2. How people deal with anger:
      1. Clam up – leads to bitterness
      2. Blow up – leads to divisiveness
      3. Give up – leads to hopelessness
      4. Grow up – leads to communicating God’s way.
  3. Be tactful.  Verse 29
    1. No corrupt communication.
    2. Edifying communication
    3. Minister grace – respond with grace.
  4. Be tender hearted.  Verse 32
    1. Forgiving as God has forgiven us.  Isaiah 38:17  (our sins are cast behind God’s back.)
