TEXT:  Philippians 2:5-11

  Knowing where we are headed

I. A mind that understands self (vv. 6-7a)
A. Christ knew who He was (v. 6a)
B. Christ knew the position He had (v. 6b)
1. He knew His role in God’s redemptive plan for mankind
2. He knew He was the only mediator between God and man (I Timothy 2:3-8)
3. He knew the mission God had for Him in redemption (John 18:37; 12:27; Matthew 26:53-54)

C. Christ didn’t have anything to prove (v. 7a)

II. A mind that is able to be humbled (vv. 7b-8)
A. Christ lowered Himself (v. 7b)
B. Christ humbled Himself (vs. 8a)
C. Christ sacrificed Himself (vs. 8b; Galatians 1:4; 2:20; Ephesians 5:25; I Timothy 2:6)

III. A mind that is willing to be patient (vv. 9-11)
A. Christ was willing to be exalted after lowering Himself (v. 9)
B. Christ was willing to be honored after humbling Himself (v. 10; Proverbs 15:33)
C. Christ was willing to be praised after He was mocked by others (v. 11)
