TEXT:  Psalm 17:1-8

Introduction: Psalm 51:1-10 (v. 1 lovingkindness)
vs. 1 “mercy”
vs. 1 “lovingkindness”
vs. 1 “tender mercies”

I. God’s love makes prayer possible (vv. 1-6)
A. Love causes us to listen to the one we love (vv. 1, 2, 6)
B. Love causes us to honor the one we love (vv. 3-4)
C. Love causes us to help the one we love (v. 5)

II. God’s lovingkindness draws us to Him (vv. 7-8)
A. God’s lovingkindness is requested to be displayed
B. God’s lovingkindness is described as marvelous
C. God’s lovingkindness is connected to God that saves
D. God’s lovingkindness is why we trust in Him for protection
E. God’s lovingkindness is why He values us (John 3:16-18)

III. God’s love protects us in His favor (vv. 9-14)
A. David is praying for protection from the wicked (v. 9)
B. David is praying for protection from his enemies (vv. 10-12)
C. David is praying for deliverance from the wicked (v. 13)
D. David is praying for deliverance from those who God is authority over (v. 14)

IV. God’s love promises us eternity in His presence (v. 15)
A. David believed he would see God’s face in the future
B. David believed he would see God in righteousness
C. David believed he would be satisfied when he awoke in eternity
D. David believed he would awake in the likeness of God after death
E. David believed these things because God inspired him to record it
