Fatherless

Exodus 22:22 — Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

Psalm 82:3 — Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

James 1:27 — Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this,

To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction,

and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

This week we had a team of 10 made up of teens and adults along with 3 Woodard children travel 20 hours to Clovis, NM, to serve in the lives of children and teens who do not have their parents actively engaged in their lives. The church family of Westbrook Baptist Church, Pastor Furgus and Sister Jeanette Tunnell, the Director Brian Patton and his wife Renee, along with the dedicated staff and volunteers seek to fill this void in the lives of these children. The team from our church, along with everyone who gave financially and prayed faithfully, also took an active part in reaching out to these children in need. We talk about obeying the Bible and living out the truths of the Bible in daily life, but how often do we actually take the opportunity presented to us to physically follow through in living what the Bible says. I am glad that we are monthly fulfilling these principles of Scripture through our Faith Missions giving to Haven of Hope Children’s Home in Clovis, NM, and through Lighthouse Children’s Home in San Jose, Costa Rica. It is my prayer that we increase our giving to them in the future and take on other ministries like these as well. There is one in Nepal that we had presented in the past that I would like us to prayerfully consider. We all can do something to help out in the life of someone who needs more godly and stabilizing influences in their lives, we just have to find ways to do it that would be appropriate and honorable. We all can give something financially to help these ministries and we can all pray for these ministries. Many can also help with card making for the birthdays of these children. No one can and no one should be expected to do everything, but everyone can and should be doing something to obey these Scriptures in the lives of children.
