WED: “WHY WE GET MARRIED”

TEXT: Genesis 2:4-25

Introduction:
* God wants people to be sexually pure until marriage. (I Peter 2:11; I Thessalonians 5:22; 4:1-7)
* God wants people to be married before they enjoy sexual intimacy together (Hebrews 13:4)
* God wants people to be married, not to live together outside of marriage (Romans 13:13)

I. It was God’s Will (vv. 18-20)
A. God wants us to be married not live together
B. God wants us to be married not hook-up together
C. God wants us to be married not partner together
D. God wants us to be married not just have children together
E. God wants us to be married in order to create a family together
1. A couple working together for God’s glory
2. A couple helping each other to walk with God
3. A couple rearing their children together to live for God
4. A couple preparing for the betterment of our society

II. It was God’s Person (vv. 21-22)
A. God provided this person to me (v. 21)
B. God proved this person was for me (v. 22)
1. God provided Rebekah to Isaac wonderfully (Genesis 24)
2. God brought Ruth to Boaz amazingly (Ruth 2-4)
C. God presented this person to me (v. 22)
1. We need to let God put together our relationship with a potential spouse
2. We need to look at our spouse to be as a gift to us from God
3. We need to value and cherish our spouse as a treasure given to us by God

III. It was God’s Time (vv. 23-25)
A. Accepting God’s gift provided to you (v. 23)
1. Acknowledging the gift provided by God
2. Acknowledging the union with God’s gift
3. Acknowledging the honor of God’s gift
B. Committing to the person God has provided to you (v. 24)
C. Openness before and delighting in the person God provided (v. 25)
