WED: “THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ESSENTIAL TO BIBLICAL SALVATION”

TEXT:  JOHN 3:1-11

I. We cannot have spiritual birth without the Holy Spirit (vv. 1-5)
A. We must be born again not just born once (vv. 1-3)
B. We must be born into God’s family not just born into our physical family (vv. 4-5a)
C. We must be born of the Holy Spirit to be part of God’s kingdom on earth (v. 5b)

II. We cannot have spiritual life without the Holy Spirit (vv. 6-7)
A. Being born of flesh is not enough to be part of God’s kingdom (v. 6a; I Corinthians 15:50)
B. Being born of the Spirit gives us spiritual life (v. 6b)
C. Being born again is a must to eternity with God (v. 7)

III. We cannot see the Holy Spirit in us but by the evidence of it (vv. 8-11)
A. The wind is an unseen force much like the Holy Spirit
B. People see the effect of the wind without seeing the wind itself
C. Wind makes no noise, but we hear it at work on earth without knowing the source
D. People do not see or hear the Holy Spirit, but they should see and hear His power on us

IV. We cannot have just a little bit of the Holy Spirit (vv. 30-36)
A. The Holy Spirit is the seal of our faith in Jesus (vv. 30-33)
B. The Holy Spirit is given to us from God fully not by measure (v. 34)
C. The Holy Spirit is part of all that goes with believing on Jesus (vv. 35-36)
