WED: “THE ESSENTIAL OF REGULAR WORSHIP”

TEXT:  Psalm 5

I. The significance of personal worship (vv. 1-4)

  1. The significance of the personal pronouns (vv. 1-3)
  2. The significance of the personal requests (vv. 1-2)
  3. The significance of the personal relationship (v. 2)
  4. The significance of the personal commitment (vv. 2-3)
  5. The significance of the personal motivation (v. 4)

II. The reason for regular worship (vv. 5-6)

  1. It helps us to live wisely instead of foolishly (v. 5a)
  1. The foolish cannot be in the presence of the Lord
  2. The foolish do not enjoy the face of God’s blessing shining upon them
  3. The foolish don’t have a good standing before the Lord God Almighty
  1. It helps us to experience God’s love instead of His wrath (v. 5b)
  1. God is a God that loves holiness and hates sinfulness
  2. God loves what righteousness does in our lives and hates what iniquity does
  3. God those who benefit from His righteousness in their lives and He will condemn those who reject it
  1. It helps us to benefit from God’s help instead of God’s destruction (v. 6a)
  1. God’s destruction is on those that speak lies instead of speak truth
  2. God’s destruction is on those who are deceptive in their words
  3. God’s help is on those who are honest and do not manipulate information
  1. It helps us to benefit from God’s closeness instead of distance from God (v. 6b)
  1. We cannot be close to the Lord and live in sin
  2. We cannot be intimate with the Lord and purposely hurt people
  3. We cannot be near to the heart of God if we deal in deceit

III. The relationship between personal and corporate worship (v. 7)

  1. Personal worship prepares us for corporate worship
  2. Personal worship leads us to corporate worship
  3. Personal worship strengthens us in corporate worship

IV. The result of regular worship (vv. 8-12)

  1. Yielding to the Lord to be led by Him in His righteousness (vv. 8-10)
  1. Desiring the Lord’s leading in my life
  2. Desiring the Lord’s righteousness leading me in my life
  3. Desiring the Lord’s way to guide me clearly
  4. Desiring the Lord’s will in my life unlike the wicked
  • >Faithfulness in my words
  • >Righteousness in my life
  • >Wholesomeness in my speech
  • >Wisdom counselling my living
  • >Submission to God in my attitude
  1. Trusting in the Lord to be filled with His joy in my life (v. 11)
  1. God’s joy in my soul by faith in Him
  2. Expressing God’s joy from my mouth
  3. Loving the Lord to be defended by Him and His joy
  1. Experiencing the Lord working in my life for my benefit (v. 12)
  1. The Lord’s blessing in my life
  2. The Lord’s favor on my life
  3. The Lord’s protection surrounding my life
