TEXT: Psalm 42

I. Our deepest needs are clear in times of despair (vv. 1-3)
A. The soul of man longs for the filling of God (v. 1)
B. The soul of man can only be satisfied by God (v. 2)
C. The soul of man is barren without God (v. 3)

II. God is the best solution to the despair of our soul (vv. 4-6)
A. When in despair, remember the house of God (v. 4)
B. When in despair, find hope in God (v. 5)
C. When in despair, remember God (v. 6)

III. God’s love for us is stabilizing in trials (v. 7-11)
A. When God is trying us, His love for us stabilizes us (v. 7)
B. When we turn to the Lord, He provides to us what we need (vv. 8-9a)
C. When we are attacked by our enemies, we need to turn to God (vv. 9b-10)
D. God is always hope for those who trust in Him (v. 11)
