January 7, 2024     TEXT:  MATTHEW 16:13-20

I. This statement is individual — “I”

  1. Jesus is declaring this for Himself
  1.  It is His church to establish
  2.  It is His church to build
  3.  It is His church to catch away (I Thessalonians 4:13-18)

B. We can only make declarations for what we can make happen

C. I am only accountable to God for my own decisions and actions

II. This statement is insistent — “Will”

  1. It requires determination
  2. It requires dedication
  3. It requires diligence
  4. It requires deliberateness
  1. We must be purposeful like Jesus
  2. We must be intentional like Jesus
  3. We must be volitional like Jesus
  4. We must be powerful like Jesus

III. This statement is incremental — “Build”

  1. Building involves increasing over time
  2. Building involves progressing step by step
  3. Building involves accomplishing completion (I Peter 2:1-6)
  1. Jesus will accomplish the completion of building His church age
  2. Jesus will fulfill His promise to those who are His lively stones
  3. Jesus wants us to accomplish His will for our lives while we are on earth

  • >Are you committed to finishing the work God has given you to accomplish in the life
  • He has given you to live for His glory?
