TEXT:  MATTHEW 18:1-6

INTRODUCTION:  MATTHEW 17; MARK 9:33-37

1. The passion for prominence.  v.1
   1. Pride is a potential for us all
   2. Selfishness is in the carnality of us all
   3. Thinking of ourselves too much is the root of the problem
2. The lesson to be learned for us all. v.2
   1. Jesus requested a child, to teach them about greatness
   2. Jesus allowed a child to settle their dispute about greatness
   3. Jesus taught grown men a valuable lesson through a child
3. The significance of service. Mark 9:33-35
   1. Jesus asked a probing question
   2. Jesus knew the answer to the question
   3. Jesus answered the truth of greatness – Greatness is being submissive, selfless & willing to serve.
4. The simplicity of salvation.  vv. 3-4
   1. It is about a change in ourselves
   2. It is about recognizing (or admitting) our need
   3. It is about humbling ourselves
5. The wonderfulness.  v.5
   1. We must be willing to receive the Lord
   2. We must be willing to care about what Jesus cares about
   3. We must be willing to honor the Lord by honoring others
6. The danger of damaging a child. v.6
   1. It is the same for everyone
   2. It is the offence of anyone
      1. Any child who is taken advantage of because of being a child
      2. Any child that is caused to doubt God
      3. Any child that is drawn into sinfulness
   3. It is the consequence to whomever is guilty.
