TEXT: II Timothy 2:19-26

I. The foundation that is sure (v. 19)
A. No matter what, this is true (II Timothy 2:14-18)
B. The sure foundation is of God, not of man (v. 19a)
C. The seal of the believer is that the Lord knows His own (v. 19b)
1. Having this seal (Ephesians 4:30; I Peter 1:3-5)
2. The Lord knows all who are truly trusting Him (Mathew 7:21-23)
3. God makes us righteous in His eternal righteousness, we are able to live in that righteousness (II Corinthians 5:20-21)
4. The seal is of the Lord not of the recipient of the seal
D. The responsibility of the believer sealed by the Lord (v. 19c; I John 3:1-6)

II. The vessel that is useful (vv. 20-21)
A. The vessels are in the house (v. 20)
B. The vessels are described differently (v. 20; I Corinthians 3)
C. The vessels are not all useful to the Master (v. 21)
1. If a man
2. Purge himself
3. He shall be a vessel of honor
4. Meet for the Master’s use
5. Prepared unto every good work (Ephesians 2:8-10)
* Prepared in redemption in being a new creation in Christ
* Prepared in being yielded to the Spirit and being led of the Spirit
* Prepared in growing spiritually and maturing in the faith

III. The instructions that are needed (vv. 22-26)
A. Flee lustful things (v. 22a)
B. Follow righteous things (v. 22b)
C. Avoid contentious things (vv. 23-24a)
D. Be a faithful servant of the Lord (vv. 24-26)
1. Gentle unto all men
2. Able to teach
3. Patient with people
4. Instructing others with truth in meekness
5. Helping others be delivered from Satan’s traps
