TEXT: II Timothy 2:1-7
I. Personal strength (v. 1)
A. Our listening to truth is personal (Proverbs 22:17-21)
B. Our state of being is personal
1. Being strong is a personal reality (II Timothy 1:7; Psalm 119:80; Luke 15:17; Mark 5:15; Luke 8:35)
2. Being in God’s grace is a personal experience
3. Being gracious to others is a personal decision (Colossians 4:2; Psalm 71:15-18; Ecclesiastes 10:12; Ephesians 4:29)
C. Our relationship with Jesus is personal (Proverbs 3:5-10)
II. Perpetuating truth (v. 2)
A. Begins with learning truth personally
B. Continues with sharing truth learned with others
C. Advances further as they also share the truth with others
III. Personal understanding (vv. 3-7)
A. Our understanding as a soldier only helps us personally (v. 4)
B. Our understanding as an athlete only helps us personally (v. 5; I Corinthians 9:24-27)
C. Our understanding as a harvester only helps us personally (v. 6; John 4:35-38; I Corinthians 3:6-9)
D. Our understanding as a Christian only helps us personally (v. 7; Psalm 119:73, 125, 144; Proverbs 2:3-6; John 14:26; 16:13; Ephesians 1:17-18)
