TEXT: Judges 6
I. We need to seek God’s help in our troubles here on earth (vv. 7-11)
A. When our enemy attacks us we need to seek God’s help (v. 7; Philippians 4:6-7)
B. When God sends His messenger to give His message we need to listen (v. 8; Philippians 4:8-9)
C. When we are in fear, we need to be reminded of the truth God’s goodness (vv. 9-11)
II. We can expect the Lord to show us His will when we seek His help (vv. 12-21)
A. The Lord came to Gideon in response to Israel crying for His help (v. 12; I John 1:7)
B. God sees what He can do with us not only what we are able to do ourselves (vv. 13-16)
C. God is not offended by us making sure we are hearing the right message (vv. 17-21; I John 4:1-6)
III. We can expect God’s presence to encourage us in His will (vv. 22-27)
A. We should be comforted by God’s presence not fearful (v. 23)
B. We should be drawn to worship by God’s presence with us (v. 24)
C. We should be obedient to God’s will for us knowing we have His help (vv. 25-27)
IV. We can expect opposition when we obey the will of God (vv. 26-35)
A. The enemies of God are the enemies of God’s people (vv. 28-30; John 15:18-21; I John 3:11-13)
B. The truth of God makes clear the falseness of false gods (vv. 31-33)
C. The Holy Spirit gives us courage to obey God in opposition (vv. 34-35)
V. We can do God’s will with the help of God’s Spirit (vv. 36-40)
A. Sometimes we just want to make sure we aren’t missing any details
B. Even with God’s help and God’s Spirit with us we can still doubt ourselves
C. God is patient to help us understand His will even in our humanness (Hebrews 11:32-34)
