AM: “THE LAW OF BIOGENESIS”

TEXT: John 1:1-18

Introduction: “In Him Was Life”
Biogenesis defined:
* Biological physical life
* Spiritual eternal life

I. In Him was life because He is eternally alive (vv. 1-2)
A. The life of deity is eternally existing already in the beginning
B. The life of deity is united as one though individually described
C. The life of deity is able to be the source of all other life as eternally living

II. In Him was life so He is the causation of all life (v. 3)
A. God was the cause of all of creation by His spoken Word (Genesis 1:3-26)
B. Everything that was made, was made by the Word of God (Hebrews 4:12-13; Ephesians 2:1-7; Hebrews 11:3)
C. Jesus is the source of life biologically and spiritually as God (Colossians 1:15-22)

III. In Him was life so He can give us His eternal life (vv. 4-13)
A. The life that is eternally in Jesus is the true light of all men (vv. 4-9; John 8:12; 9:5; 11:9; II Cor. 4:4; Matt. 5:14)
B. Jesus is the light of life that lighteth every person in all the world (vv. 9-10; I John 5:19-20; 2:2)
C. Eternal life must be produced by the eternal source of eternal life (vv. 11-13)

IV. In Him was life but He had to be made flesh to die for us (vv. 14-18)
A. Jesus had to be made flesh so He could die for our sins as our sacrifice (v. 14a)
B. Jesus had to leave eternity to enter time as our kinsman redeemer (v. 14b)
C. Jesus had to be God even in His human form to be our sinless sacrifice (v. 14c)
D. Jesus had to exist eternally before He was born to be before John was born (v. 15)
E. Jesus had to be God for us to receive grace and truth from Him in our life (vv. 16-17)
F. Jesus had to be God so He could bring us into a right relationship with God (v. 18)
