AM: “I AM THAT I AM”

TEXT:  EXODUS 3:1-18

Introduction: Exodus 3:1-10

>God calls those who are faithfully doing something already      vs. 1      Matthew 25:21

>God shows us His power when we are taking care of our responsibilities      vs. 2    Exodus 14:21, Joshua 3:13-16, II Kings 2:8

>God speaks to us when He has our attention      vss. 3-5

>God is always present tense, all the time, everywhere      vss. 6-10

I. Knowing who God is helps us know who we are      vss. 11-13

  1. It helps us to understand our need spiritually      vs. 11
  1. It helps us to know how much we need God      vs. 12
  1. It helps us to know that we need to know Him more      vs. 13  I Peter 2:1-5

II. Knowing who God is accurately builds our faith in Him      vss. 14-15   

      A. He is the eternal God I AM     Psalm 41:13, 90:2, 93:2, 103:17, 106:48, Proverbs 8:23, Micah 5:2, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:15, 30

  1. He is the self-existing God THAT I AM. LORD     Genesis 2:4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22
  1. He is the sovereign God I AM hath sent me     Psalm 119:89-90, 160, 12:6-7

III. Knowing who God is helps us to obey His will for our lives    vss. 16-18

  1. Knowing His sufficiency helps us trust Him with our insufficiencies     vs. 16
  1. Knowing His greatness helps us trust Him with our inadequacies    vs. 16
  1. Knowing His power helps us trust Him with our insecurities    vs. 16
  1. Knowing His promise helps us trust Him with our fears    vss. 17-18

               vs. 17 “I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of…”

               vs. 18 “And they shall hearken to thy voice…”

  1. We must hear His promises before we can know His promises
  1. We must know His promises before we can believe His promises
  1. We must believe His promises before we can obey His promises
  1. We must obey His promises before we can experience His promises
  1. We must experience His promise before we can benefit from His promises
